IMPERIAL SCIENCE COLLEGE
As one of the foremost teaching and research institutions, the Imperial College of
Science wanted to restore the foyer and staircase back to its original beauty and to retain
its grandeur.
On this project, The Complete Restoration Company had many different substrates and
surfaces to restore, each requiring their own very specific treatment.
Our versatile Doff machine was used to clean a number of surfaces - the hot water blasting
treatment helped bring the Portland stone treads and risers back to their best, and its
steam setting helped us clean and polish the glazed bricks in the foyer.
The terrazzo floors in reception were carefully cut back to their original finish and
then re-polished.
Next to be restored were the bronze balustrades that lined the four flights of stairs.
They hadn’t been cleaned for some time, but a good polish and re-lacquer soon made them
look as good as new.
And finally, the top landings and flight of stairs had been finished in a parquet
floor that had been neglected for years. The Complete Restoration Company re-fitted any
loose blocks, sanded then polished them with three coats of a polytec hard wax oil.
