HAILEYBURY COLLEGE
Originally built in 1806 as a training college for budding civil servants bound for India,
Haileybury eventually became an independent school that taught luminaries including Clement
Atlee, Sir Stirling Moss and Rudyard Kipling.
Being such an old school, maintenance and upkeep of its many original features has to be
undertaken carefully and respectfully. This is one of the reasons that The Complete Restoration
Company were asked to repair and polish their rather neglected 100-year-old Dining Hall floor.
Some of the original parquet flooring was carefully restored and re-fitted and doormat wells
were made larger before a series of meticulous sanding processes brought the original wood
back to its former glory. Finally, three coats of a polytec hard wax oil was applied to protect
it from the thunder of hungry students’ feet.
